What does an EGR Valve Do?
The EGR valve is part of the emissions system in your car or truck, and is used on most modern vehicles. The EGR
valve is used to reduce emissions by ensuring that the engine burns as much of the air and fuel mixture as possible
so that there is not that much emissions coming out of the tailpipe, and helps cars pass smog as well as meet new
stricter requirements for green house gasses. The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve, does as it's name
implies - it recirculates some of the exhaust gases back into the intake manifold, so that it can run through the
process a second time, and cause less emissions.
My car did not pass smog, and it's because I need a new EGR valve. Can I just clean it?
Depending on the type of problem with the EGR valve, usually cleaning it will not help the problem. The EGR valve
is usually stuck open or stuck shut, and therefore doesn't work as it's supposed to. You can check to make sure
the vacuum part of the EGR valve is functioning, but typically old age, and carbon buildup simply ruin the valve,
and require it's replacement.
Do your EGR valves come with gaskets?
Most of our EGR valves do come with a new EGR
Valve Gasket, but if you only need the gasket, we do sell it seperately. We do not recommend to replace your
EGR valve, and keep the old gasket. We also do not recommend to use RTV to seal the valve to the intake, we always
use a new gasket.
Do I need to replace anything else when I get a new EGR valve?
Depending on what type of car or truck you have, you might also need to replace your EGR Temperature Sensor. Some cars
also have an EGR Vacuum Controller
or a EGR Vacuum Solenoid. Some cars,
such as Ford, also have a EGR Valve
Position Sensor that tells the computer how far closed or open the EGR valve is at any given time. Depending
on your application, some or all of these components might be necessary to replace. If you are unsure, please ask
