Brake rotors come in different styles and sizes, from cross drilled, to slotted to full face vented rotors. A
quality brake rotor can increase the safety of your car or truck, by making sure you are able to stop quickly,
efficiently, and take full advantage of the brake system your car or truck came with from the factory. Combined
with quality brake pads, a good set of brake
rotors can increase your confidence, and help prevent accidents from sudden brake stops.
What are the different types of brake rotors? Which is better?
Even though brake rotors come in different sizes, in this catalog, we only sell factory size rotors. Because all
of our brake rotors are factory size, they are ensured to fit your car or truck. However, there are different
styles, which are designed for different things. Some rotors are made more for looks, to look nice behind a nice
set of wheels. Usually, most cross drilled rotors are made for looks, as cross drilled rotors don't always
dissipate heat better than full face rotors, even though that is their intention. Each drill in the cross drilled
rotors, is designed to release built up brake gases caused by the brake pads forced against the brake rotor.
Releasing these gasses is supposed to reduce heat. However, many customers have noticed that their cross drilled
rotors actually crack between the drills, which means the heat was still too high, or the quality of the rotor was
low. The cross drilled rotors we sell, are designed by such companies as Brembo or Zimmerman, and are of the
highest quality, and specifically designed with all of the benefits of a cross drilled rotor, but without the
cracking, so you know you are getting a quality rotor. Some of our other Brembo rotors are slotted brake rotors,
and the slots work the same as cross drills, and are designed to release extra gasses. We also sell both slotted
and cross drilled rotors, so not only do they look good behind your wheels, they also are functional, and extremely
high quality.
Do you sell brake drums?
Yes we do. Brake drums typically are in the back, and come on vehicles that don't offer 4 wheel disc brakes. We
do sell replacement drums, and for those customers who want to do a conversion between drums and rotors, we offer
many replacement brake parts that can help you with your brake conversion.
Do I need to replace the rear brakes at the same time as the front?
This depends on how your brakes wear. Many times, the front brakes do about 70-80% of the braking, so you will
wear them much faster than the rears. Many customers do the rear brakes every other time, when doing the front
brakes.
Do I need to replace my brake pads also?
When replacing your brake rotors, we recommend to inspect your brake pads, and make sure they have at least 50%
life left. The reason we recommend at least 50%, is because if you spend the time and effort to replace the rotors,
only to have to replace the pads a few months later, it won't make sense to put on new rotors with old pads, and
the old pads have a good chance of not wearing into the new rotors correctly.
Can I just resurface my old rotors?
Absolutely. The only problem with resurfacing a rotor, is that you are paying to try and revive old brake
components. For only a little bit more, you can get brand new brake rotors, and know you are using brand new parts
that are machined to spec, and do not need to be resurfaced. While resurfacing a rotor might cost $30-40, you can
buy a new rotor for the same price, or a little more in our catalog. Why take a chance resurfacing your old rusty
parts, when you can have brand new replacement parts.
