How can I replace my fuel pump?
Fuel pump installation varies greatly from various cars and trucks, and we recommend to ask in our car forum to find out for your specific application. Typically, the fuel pump sits right above the fuel tank, or on the side of the fuel tank, if it's external. If it's on the side, then you would need to access the pump from the bottom of the car. If it's on top, you would typically remove your rear seats, and find there is a cover. Once you remove the cover, you will find there are a few rubber hoses and a few electrical connectors. Unplug the harness, and remove the rubber hoses. Then, unbolt the little nuts that are holding down the fuel pump assembly, and slide out the fuel pump sideways, being careful not to catch the fuel screen on the tank. Most new fuel pumps come with a new fuel pump gasket, so you would want to replace this as well. Installation is the reverse of removal. For help and detailed instructions, please ask in our forum.
Do I also need to replace my fuel filter?
Whenever you replace the fuel pump, we always recommend to replace the fuel filter as a precaution. Many times the fuel pump fails because of contamination in the gas tank that ended up clogging the fuel pump. For these cases, it many times contaminates the fuel filter as well.
How can I tell if my fuel pump failed or is about to fail?
Usually, right before fuel pumps fail, they get much louder. A fuel pump sounds like a high pitched whine, as the little gears inside of the unit pump fuel to the engine. If a fuel pump is going to fail, the best time for it to fail is when the car is idling, or turned off. This way you can be sure that the engine is not requiring a lot of fuel pressure. If the fuel pump dies during high rpm operation, or when high fuel pressure is required, then it can cause catastrophic engine damage.
My car is modified, do I need a new fuel pump?
This question really depends on the modifications you have. If you have modifications that are causing your car to run lean, then you would need to ensure your fuel pump can maintain fuel pressure, and we would recommend a higher pressure fuel pump such as a Walbro fuel pump. If your car has simple modifications such as an intake, exhaust, or small mods, you can usually rely on the stock fuel system.
Do the fuel pumps you sell require any modifications when installing?
All of the fuel pumps we sell are direct replacements, and are exact specs as stock. Many times the fuel pumps are actually the stock pump that came in your car from the factory. There is no modification required, we guarantee it.
